DEPT OF GLOBAL MISSIONS

MAGAZINE DESIGN

In my role with The Missionary Seer, I focused on transforming this historic magazine into a modern digital experience. By refreshing its design, I helped shine a light on the impactful work of the A.M.E. Zion Church's missions in 29 countries. Explore & see how thoughtful layout and design can breathe new life into a storied publication.

Problem

The Chief Editor of this esteemed historical magazine faced numerous obstacles. The lack of an online presence, including a digital-readable version for tablets, deprived readers of an accessible experience. A comprehensive website for subscriptions and online reading was sorely needed. Moreover, outsourcing design work removed the editor's direct influence over the aesthetic and direction of the publication.

Solution

As a magazine layout designer, I set out refreshing a timeless magazine logo, creating eye-catching covers that highlight African Methodism, and building dynamic spreads that capture attention. I also transformed our publication's accessibility with an online portal, ensuring that readers around the world can subscribe and enjoy the content.

Results

I am proud to share the transformational impact of my magazine layout redesign. The revamped design has made online access seamless, resulting in a remarkable increase in subscriptions that has positively influenced our nonprofit’s budget. This growth has fueled a renewed focus on global missions while creating a publication that fosters pride and identity among African American Methodists. Together, we are celebrating our heritage and making a difference in the world!
